Workshop

Merging art and craftsmanship

Our master workshop in Staufen, an idyllic medieval town located south of Freiburg, is already in its second generation. We have been making instruments of the highest artistic calibre here since 1985. The workshop creates a space where something new and fascinating can emerge every single day. Pictures, details or impressions, an interesting new contact, or an artist’s impressive recording constantly inspire us to explore sound in all its variety.

»Only a violin which inspires can express a musician’s true personality.« Philipp Augustin

»I can only marvel at the sensitivity and intuition with which he approaches an instrument, and creates something new in pursuit of his ideal sound. I am delighted that he is carrying our family business on into the next generation and has taken "our art" to the next level at such a young age.« Andreas Augustin

»You need to speak a common language to be able to compare or adjust instruments together with someone. We have been connected by a deep friendship and many shared interests since our training, allowing us to build up a very special working relationship.« Jan Nevoigt

»»I worked at Augustin for almost nine years and I learned an infinite amount in all areas of violin-making, from restoration to new builds. Since then, we have continued to collaborate when building new instruments, and I work closely together with Philipp in repair work.« Stefan Becker www.beckerviolins.org
